For the first time ever, Trotsky’s History of the Russian Revolution has been translated into an Eastern language. October has seen the launch of the publication in Urdu. In a series of meetings all around the country, socialists have been celebrating the centenary of the 1917 Russian Revolution and what better way to celebrate the event than the publication of this history by one of the two architects of the revolution, the other being Lenin.
The book has been painstakingly translated into Urdu by the supporters of the Socialist newspaper, Struggle and is the fruit of years of effort, in a project initiated more than a year ago.
British political commentator, Tariq Ali, has endorsed the book, with the following comments:
“This passionate, partisan and beautifully written account by a major participant in the revolution, written during his exile on the isle of Prinkipo in Turkey, remains one of the best accounts of 1917. No counter-revolutionary, conservative or liberal, has been able to compete with this telling”
