LETTER from Bob Edwards, Harlow Labour Party member
Your last editorial was spot on other than that I don’t think the ruling class would want to organise a National Government or a ‘national coalition’ at this stage. While the Tories will be shattered, they will hope that the Lib-Dems will pick up their losses of safe seats. As long as the Labour majority is not too massive (ie hundreds) they probably think that there will be enough ‘Chuka Umunnas’ to help pull Corbyn’s plug.
Also, while a new Tory leader will be in place, he hasn’t yet been shown to be a total disaster like May and so they might risk a gamble on an election. I have a bet at the bookies on a Labour victory and that is still good and I think an October election is almost a cert. Brexit hasn’t yet caused a major economic setback – ie mass unemployment or financial crisis – and there is always the use of the ‘royal prerogative’.
