LETTER from Tom Smith, Newport West Labour Party
On television I saw an interview with a pensioner who is self-isolated. She was terrified because she had a lung condition where the coronavirus could mean death. A socialist approach to this horrific situation would be to mass recruit retired doctors, nurses and paramedics to be trained to use ventilators. There should be a plan to TEST EVERY elderly person in self-isolation . The alternative is perhaps witnessing that same pensioner dying trying to breath.
Yesterday I met a worker employed in an care home for the elderly. It seems there is no real plan to visit such homes and prepare tests for those living there. If this government fails to focus on the plight of elderly people then those at most risk will be ignored.
It seems we are facing a future of legalised culling. The NHS should be able to cancel PFI payments and use the cash to save lives. In short, we are placing cash in the hands of parasitic financial institutions, whilst up the road, my neighbour chokes to death because of a lack of resources. We do not have even have enough oxygen when demand increases.
Incidentally, I urge people to phone NHS111. I did but it took over an hour for a reply. All I wanted was advice. I was told to phone my G P.
