LETTER from Mohammed Mamunul Islam, Bedford Labour Party member

If our past generations didn’t stand up and fight for what is right we would have been still under occupation, colonial rules or owned by some as slaves and if we don’t stand up to fight for our rights today, if we don’t stand up in solidarity for those victim of injustice and discrimination our next generation will not have the rights that they must have.

The discrimination, the injustice that happened yesterday, is happening today and will continue to happen tomorrow in one form or another unless we stand up to end it unless we unite to end all forms of discrimination and guarantee equality and justice for all.

It’s not them vs us, it’s not black vs white. It is goodness and fairness and justice vs evil and discrimination and injustice. There are enough blacks in position who are happy to keep their own suppressed because they are brainwashed, they are selfish, or they are promised something. Let us not allow them to hijack our struggle and derail it, stand firm for writing history ourselves for our next generation…never to feel they are any less valuable than others. Never feel small, even if you are alone. We may not achieve everything we want within our time, but let our determination be the inspiration for our next generation.

It always seems impossible until it’s done” Madiba.

These are my reasons for joining black lives matter protest and seeking justice for George Floyd and all victims of racism.

In solidarity.
