A week has gone by since the London launch meeting and there have been further developments in the campaign, with more events planned.
There has been a huge increase in numbers, with another 100,000 signing up, (that’s 400,000 now) and the Fire Brigade Union affiliating since the meeting last Wednesday.
There has been an Enough is Enough march and rally in Liverpool at the weekend, in support of the RMT. Thousands turned up.
The big meeting that is taking place in Manchester Cathedral on Tuesday 30th, is once again, likely to be filled to capacity.
The Enough is Enough campaign is so fast moving, and growing so rapidly, it would appear impossible for any local organisation to keep pace.
For example, following the London launch meeting in Clapham last week, it was announced that four branches were being set up. North, South, East and West London. (Any supporter in the city should sign up). Details are below.
However, it is fairly clear that it will be a few weeks before anything can get organised at a branch level with so much going on.
The RMT and CWU are both involved in multiple disputes involving tens of thousands of their members.
The UCU is preparing for disputes in Universities and Colleges the length and breadth of the country.
On top of this there is the job of organising the massive meetings and rallies in all corners of Britain.
That certainly shouldn’t mean the rest of us sitting around waiting for someone else to do something.
It was very encouraging to see two enough is enough supporters, who come along to the RMT picket line at New Cross Gate in South London last Friday.
They had been to the launch meeting in Clapham a couple of nights before, had made a banner and got down to the picket line, putting words into action.
This is precisely the sort of example that we should all be following.
Don’t forget that the postal workers are out this Friday and we should all be making an effort to find out where the local CWU picket line is and getting along to show support.
There are also many other activities we should be involved in, not least recruiting to our own unions and building and strengthening our local branches.
There is also a case for organising local meetings, on the cost of living crisis and/or the energy crisis or whatever subject is most relevant for your local area.
The message is clearly, let’s get organised, the days of hanging around waiting for someone else to do something are over.
