A report produced by the Labour MP for Kensington and Chelsea, Emma Dent Coad, highlights the stark class divisions in that part of London. These figures from The Guardian (Nov 13):

·       Life expectancy: Kensington and Chelsea Borough as a whole is the highest in the country. A man living in Knightsbridge (near Harrods) can expect to reach 94, in a poorer part of the borough he might live to 72 (six years less than in 2010).

·       Child poverty: 27% for the whole borough, about average for London, but 58% in the poorer parts and 6% in the posh area around Hyde Park. One posh street has a 0% rating, while a block in council estate two miles away reaches 65%

·         Income: The World’s End estate residents have an average income of £15,000 pa while owners of nearby homes on the other side of Kings Road have average earnings of £100,000 pa.
